DANIEL ZAITCHIK

Hello. Daniel here. I’m a singer-songwriter, theatre writer, and other-things writer. I’m interested in nature and human nature.

My new record Public Fruit Trees of Los Angeles is out now. It was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Robert Adam Stevenson. My 2020 album Natural History is also out and about. Recorded in Brooklyn with Matthew Kaz, the record is a collection of tunes inspired by the natural world.

Past releases include Bad Dancer, Summer of the Soda Fountain Girls, and various singles you can find in all the usual places - some released under my name and others as Blue Bottle Collection, my former band.

I also write plays.

Darling Grenadine played a sold-out run off-Broadway at Roundabout Underground, but unfortunately closed early due to covid-19. The production was a 2020 Outer Critics Circle Awards honoree in the category of Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical.

The studio album featuring the off-Broadway cast is out now on all the usual streaming platforms and can be purchased here on bandcamp.

My other theatre projects include Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Costume, and Suprema (with playwright jordan harrison.) My work has been developed and produced at companies including Roundabout Theatre Company, Lincoln Center Theater, the Eugene O'neill Theater Center, New Dramatists, The BArrow Group Theatre, Marriott Theatre, Ars Nova, NAMT, and Goodspeed Musicals.

I’m currently working on a few new projects including a commission for Roundabout Theatre Company, an autobiographical album-play, and some screen projects.

I've been given some kind honors including the 2017 Kleban Prize for most promising lyricist. I'm sure there's more to say but i do not enjoy navigating the tone of a bio i am writing for myself. Things i do enjoy include elephants, whales, pigs, goats and dogs. Also sloths and wombats.

Thanks for stopping by.
